Project “Thermoelectric T-shirt as a power source of CGM-sensor” involves creating a T-shirt
prototype that converts heat emitted by the human body to electricity. The main goal of the
project is to provide a constant power source for the continuous glucose monitoring sensor.

The solution will extend the sensor’s lifespan and prevent it from stopping before the
manufacturer’s intended usage period ends. The project's business model is focused on
household consumers, private and government hospitals. Income is expected to come from
the sale of the finished product

  1. I love your idea, but power generation by Seebeck effect is usually quite small. Are you sure that on hot and cold days that the CGM sensor can be continuously powered?

    1. Thank you for the question! All right, the power generated by the Seebeck effect is very small, so that's why we specialize in low-power sensors for which this generated power will be enough to operate. The CGM sensor we worked with in the study is one such sensor.
      Generally, if a person is in an environment where the air temperature is close to usual conditions (approximately 20 degrees Celsius and below), the T-shirt will be able to stably power the sensor for a long time. On hot days, when the temperature of the environment where the person is located is too high, the T-shirt won't be able to power the sensor. This is because the temperature difference between the human body and the air will be small, and the power generated won't be enough to power the sensor. In cold weather, if a person is outside wearing a jacket, the power will also most likely not be enough, because the jacket will act like a thermos, not allowing the cold sides of the Peltier elements to cool down effectively. These issues are currently being studied, and work is underway to adapt the developed T-shirt to different operation modes.
