The implant is made of titanium using 3D printing, which allows for the reproduction of complex thread shapes and personalization according to the patient's anatomical features. A prototype has been developed, two patent applications have been filed, and demonstration models have been created.
According to calculations, the pressure on the bone is reduced by approximately 50% compared to traditional prostheses. This project requests funds for continued development of a tibial knee prosthetic with a threaded stem. The project focuses on an important problem – aseptic loosening in knee joint replacements. The project target is “right on” and this group seems to have made some progress but really needs a R&D partner. Threading Intermedullary stems is not unique, but 3D printing them using Titanium is a very practical solution. Rotational orientation of the prosthetic could be problematic. Significant work has been done on osseointegration to resist loosening. Defining the appropriate pitch and thread characteristics may be more important than any computational work
